In 2019, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) awarded 7 years of project funding to the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership (CRP). The IISAAK OLAM Foundation, the Indigenous Leadership Initiative (ILI), and the University of Guelph (UofG) co-host the CRP, which also weaves together a wide range of partners across Canada. Partners include the David Suzuki Foundation, World Wildlife Fund Canada, and the Canadian Wildlife Service at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) among many others.
The CRP committed to establishing three legacy outcomes:
In addition to being a co-host of the CRP, the IISAAK OLAM Foundation is an active partner, from design and contributions to the IPCA Knowledge Basket, coordination of the Pacific IPCA Innovation Centre, and leadership of the "IPCA Economics, Infrastructure and Financing" stream.
We believe in the power of this initiative to support a 'We Rise Together' movement and approach to supporting IPCAs across Canada. Anyone interested in getting involved in the CRP can reach out to our team to learn more.
Our team has also been involved in hosting some of the CRP's Virtual Campfire Series webinars. These are fantastic (and free) resources on all sorts of topics connected to IPCAs. Check them out here.
The CRP recently launched the IPCA Knowledge Basket, a unique virtual space that builds capacity and knowledge on IPCAs. Designed with a Two-Eyed Seeing approach, this beautiful website invites visitors to consider values such as reciprocity and respect when engaging with the platform. The IISAAK OLAM Foundation played a key role in designing and incubating the IPCA Knowledge Basket, which has become a legacy project of the CRP, and now lives independently as a resource for all to engage with.
The Pacific IPCA Innovation Centre is connected to the third legacy outcome of the CRP and is currently under development.
