The IISAAK OLAM Foundation (IOF) supports Indigenous Nations in finding balanced, place-based solutions for community and ecosystem well-being through Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs).

IPCAs are regional development models grounded in Indigenous laws and values. They support responsible ecosystem stewardship, sustainable livelihoods, and economies of abundance, where environment and community well-being go hand in hand.

We take an Indigenous economics approach similar to the understanding conveyed by the Greek word ‘oikos’ (pronounced “EE-cose”), meaning, ‘the wise and prudent management of the home’.

For IPCAs, this means weaving Indigenous economic practices with modern technology to create sustainable financial and infrastructure models.

By advancing regenerative, Indigenous-led economic development, IPCAs offer a powerful path toward ecological balance, climate resilience, and renewed relationships between Indigenous Peoples and Canadian institutions.
