čukʷaa haʔuk podcast series

Project Summary

he čukʷaa haʔuk audio and video series delves into the historical, legal, socio-cultural, and narrative dimensions of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) in Canada.

čukʷaa haʔuk, pronounced CHOO-kwa ha-OOK, means, “come, let’s feast” in Nuu-chah-nulth. The series invites viewers and listeners to feast on the knowledge that is shared.

The IISAAK OLAM Foundation hosts the series and features Eli Enns, Co-Founder and CEO of the IISAAK OLAM Foundation and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Citizen. Eli explores everything from the origin story of Canada to the modern-day application of constitutional law in the establishment of IPCAs.

The series invites us to look honestly at how Canada was formed, and to imagine what it means to live up to Treaty relationships and care for the Land and waters together. In this way, the series helps us to understand where we came from, shedding light on how we can move forward together.

The čukʷaa haʔuk series is produced by Jeremy Williams of River Voices Productions and Board Director of the IISAAK OLAM Foundation. Music for the series is by Joseph Tutakwisnapšiƛ Martin, Tla-o-qui-aht Master Carver and Historian, and Board Director of the IISAAK OLAM Foundation.
