Productive Retreats

Naa’Waya’Sum: the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.

As recognition of Indigenous-led conservation continues to grow, there is a powerful opportunity to deepen understanding of what Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) are and how they take shape on the ground. The IISAAK OLAM Foundation (IOF) offers productive retreats that strengthen capacity, share knowledge, and inspire the creation and growth of IPCAs across diverse territories and bioregions.

By offering these tailored retreats, IOF continues to bridge knowledge gaps, strengthen intergenerational leadership, and support the development of new IPCAs rooted in Indigenous governance and stewardship.

Who are they for?

Productive retreats take place at the Clayoquot Campus of the Pacific IPCA Innovation Centre in Tla-o-qui-aht territory (Tofino, B.C.).

Guests gather, stay, and share meals at the IISAAK Learning Lodge – a 12-room guest lodge nestled within twelve acres of coastal rainforest. The lodge comfortably accommodates 12 guests with private rooms or 20 guests in shared rooms.

The building is fully wheelchair accessible, featuring an elevator that connects all floors, as well as a fully accessible suite and washroom.

The indoor classroom has views of the gardens and can be modified to suit various spatial needs. Guests have access to the Naa’Waya’Sum Coastal Indigenous Gardens within operational hours during their stay.
